Mustad C71S Stainless steel circle streamer hook is one
of the new high quality Signature series hooks by Mustad.
Lefty Kreh, writing in the March 2002 issue of Fly Fisherman said: "The Mustad
Circle Streamer is the finest circle hook on the market today for fly fishing. The hook

Varivas 990 Carbon The following report is from The Gold Cup
Tournament 2000, where qualifying fish were tarpon over 5ft long, and in excess of 60lbs:
Using the new VARIVAS
990 hooks, the popular Japanese tarpon tournament champion, Eizo Maruhashi had "takes"
from seven fish during the tournament, and amazingly landed five. The astonished
Eizo says "these hooks are unbelievable - the penetrating power is awesome...even against
the armour-plated mouth of the tarpon." T. Patrick Ford Jr., chairman of the Golden Fly Invitational Tarpon Tournament reported:
"During the (Golden Fly) tournament, I had eight bites and caught seven fish which is very rare in
tarpon fishing. Usually, landing one in ten is a good ratio. I truly believe that the

ideal for salmon, steelhead, sea trout, etc. Forged, black, up-turned tapered

Gamakatsu SL12 Bluewater Fly Hook The SL12 Bluewater fly hook by
Gamakatsu is an excellent choice for all sorts of flies for medium to large sized saltwater
gamefish. This is the hook for offshore decievers / bucktails, Trey Comb's Sea Habit type
flies, and most larger streamers. As best as we can determine, this is the same hook
as the Trey Combs Big Game hook, which is also made by
Gamakatsu, but distributed by Spirit River. One item of note; there is a size #1/0
available in the SL12 series, a notable omission from the Trey Combs series.

Gamakatsu SL45 Bonefish Hook New from Gamakatsu in
2003 is the SL45 bonefish fly hook. Straight eye, forged, sproat bend, with a black
finish, the SL12 is nicely balanced for bonefish flies. According to Gamakatsu, "the size 10 is
small enough for those really finicky Bones but the 2x strong high carbon steel shank is strong
enough to keep them out of the mangroves once they’re hooked." We like this hook a lot, and it

Gamakatsu Spinnerbait: The Gamakatsu "Spinnerbait" hook is a popular
choice for Crease flies, Siliclones, poppers, large squid flies & snake flies and more. Nice proportions
with a large gap make this a useful hook for those styles mentioned above.
The Gamakatsu catalog reference #'s for this hook are 55012-5. Very similar
to the SP11-3L3H, but with slightly finer wire for the same size. The

teaser flies & bucktails, and these Siwash hooks by Gamakatsu are the finest that we
have seen. These hooks make a nice choice for snake flies, deceivers, etc.

Tiemco Ceramic Hook Hone (Heavy Duty)
We have been using the Tiemco Ceramic Hook Hone successfully for several years now. This hook
hone quickly puts a fine point on any hook using the flat side or one of the various
sized grooved channels. Ceramic lasts far longer than other types of stones (practically forever), and won't rust
like a metal file. Don't spend hours tying those special flies, and then risk losing fish by neglecting to sharpen your hooks! Get two - one for

Thread
We offer several kinds of thread for several different applications.
Danville's Flymaster 6/0 is a small, fine thread for precision tying.
We use this thread for much of our tying, including deceivers and
other flies, even large ones. Fine thread makes for more evenly finished
heads, but it breaks more easily than heavier threads.
Danville's Flymaster Plus (3/0) is a heavy thread used for spinning hair
and anywhere thread buildup is not a consideration.
Danville's Flat Waxed Nylon is a nice compromise for tiers who need
a strong thread without too much buildup. This thread lies flat, and is
strong enough for spinning hair, or tying very large flies.
Monofilament thread is typically used where it will seem invisible under an
epoxy coating.

Popper Blanks
These foam popper heads by Edgewater Fishing Products are the best that we have
found for making poppers for big, aggressive fish like bluefish, striped bass, dolphin,
barracuda, jacks, and even false albacore and small tunas. Great colors and
sizes to choose from -
the #2 and #1/0 Small Popper heads are great for freshwater
flies for large and smallmouth bass, small striper flies,
and small poppers for finicky saltwater species like bonito and false albacore.
The Pencil Popper heads
are long and thin for ease of casting and a slim profile. The
"Boilermaker" is a large, loud
popper head that will get the attention of aggressively feeding fish like bluefish,
jacks, trevally, etc.
Traditional kinked-shank style popper hooks include the
Mustad CK74S, and the Wapsi Saltwater Popper Hook.
Other useful hook styles for poppers are the Gamakatsu SP11-3L3H,
and the Mustad 34011.

Ewing Deceiver Hackle Patch:
Getting good quality hackles to make Lefty's deceiver tails seems to get harder each year!
We've turned to these Deceiver Patches by Ewing Feather Birds as an excellent alternative
to strung saddle hackle, and we're now using these for tailing our own
Maximum Deceiver
and Sparkling Deceiver flies. Full hackle patch (on the skin) selected for feathers suited to tying
traditional Lefty's deceiver styles. The Natural and Dyed Grizzly colors make great tails for keys-style
tarpon flies, snook & redfish flies, etc. Many more usable feathers than one will find in
small packages of hackle. Note: We are closing out the Natural White
